10 Common iPhone 6s Problems & How to Fix Your iPhone 6S

As we move away from release, we’re starting to hear about the iPhone 6s problems impacting users. Before you take your iPhone 6s into an Apple Store, take a look a look at this list of fixes for common iPhone 6s problems.

On September 25th, Apple released its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. The two devices replace the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and they’re already considered two of the best devices on the market. Two of the top selling devices as well.

We’ve been using the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus for a few days now and we agree. They’re both outstanding smartphones. They’re not perfect though.

As we’ve noted, there are iPhone 6s problems plaguing users. iPhone 6s owners are reporting a number of different problems with the iPhone 6s and its version of the iOS 9 update. iOS 9 went through an extensive testing process but bugs and problems always slip through the cracks.

While your first thought might be to make an appointment with an Apple Genius, there are a few things you can try at home before heading to an Apple Store. Here, we take a look at 10 common iPhone 6s problems and offer some fixes for them.

These fixes will work for both iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus and they will work for any version of iOS. Be it iOS 9.0 or the new iOS 9.0.1 update that Apple recently rolled out for the iPhone 6s.

(Note: You can Search your Settings so if you can’t find something, try searching for it at the top of the Settings screen.)

How to Fix iPhone 6s Slide to Update Problem

Some iPhone 6s users have been running into a Slide to Update problem wherein the phone gets stuck on the “Slide to Update” screen. Obviously, that’s not ideal.

Fortunately, there are a few things that you can try if your iPhone 6s gets stuck on the Slide to Update screen during setup or during an iOS installation.

We got stuck on this screen during the iOS 9.0.1 installation and we were able to solve the issue by unplugging the device from iTunes and installing the update Over-the-Air.

Read More: How to Fix iPhone Turns to A Brick After iOS 9 Upgrade

If you see this issue during setup, try unplugging the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus from iTunes and trying again.

If a simple unplug doesn’t work out for you, Apple recommends restoring the phone from a backup, assuming you have one:

Connect your iOS device to your computer and open iTunes.
Select your device. If you don’t see it listed, force restart your device by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
If you made an iTunes backup of your device before updating to iOS 9, restore your device from that backup. If not, you need to make a backup of your device in iTunes, then restore from that backup.
How to Fix iPhone 6s Touch Screen Problems

We’ve been dealing with some odd touch screen problems on the iPhone 6s. Our touch screen has stopped responding to gestures. And because it wasn’t responding to gestures, there was way to turn it off with the power button. It’s a problem that we ran into on the older iPhone 6 as well.

If your screen stops responding for whatever reason, don’t panic. There is a quick fix for the problem that should work for you.

You’ll want to hold down the home button and the power button until the phone resets itself. The iPhone 6s should turn back on within a few seconds and you’ll be asked to input your passcode if you have one. Your phone’s touch screen should be working and you’ll be able to access your apps and files again.

If it doesn’t work the first time, try again. One user we talked to had to reboot the phone three times before swipes and taps worked again.

How to Fix iPhone 6s Battery Life Problems

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus battery life is solid for most users but some are dealing with abnormal battery drain out of the box and after updating to Apple’s iOS 9.0.1 update.

Read More: How to Fix White Screen of Death iPhone during iOS 9 Upgrade

Mileage always varies when it comes to iPhone battery life but if you notice that your phone is draining battery faster than it should be, you’ll want to take a look at our list of fixes and tips to improve iPhone 6s battery life.

How to Fix iPhone 6s Photo Quality Problems

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus feature excellent 12MP rear cameras. They’re two of the best smartphone cameras that we’ve ever used. That said, even the best have problems and iPhone 6s users are complaining about problems with image quality in low light.

Smartphone cameras always take better photos in well-lit environments. But if you’re noticing a dramatic drop in quality when you’re shooting in a noisy or poorly lit environment, try turing off the new Live Photos features that debuted on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s.

Read more: Recover iPhone Data after iOS 9 Firmware Upgrade

Users are saying that by turning Live Photos off, photos taken in low light have improved. They’re reportedly less grainy than photos shot with Live Photos turned on. As 9to5Mac notes, this is because the iPhone 6s is constantly recording at 12FPS to capture a Live Photo.

To shut Live Photos off, go into the Camera application and make sure the little sun-like logo in the center is white, not yellow. With Live Photos turned off, you could see an improvement to the quality of your shots in low-light.

If you want to shoot a Live Photo, simply toggle it back on.

How to Fix iPhone 6s Wi-Fi Problems

If your iPhone 6s suddenly stops connecting to your Wi-Fi network or starts exhibiting speeds that are slower than normal, there are a few things you’ll want to try.

If you start noticing Wi-Fi problems on the iPhone 6s, the first thing you’ll want to do is reset your Network Settings.

To do this, head into Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. The process can take a few minutes to complete so be patient. Once it’s done, your iPhone 6s will forget your Wi-Fi passwords so make sure you have them handy.

If that doesn’t work, you can try forgetting your Wi-Fi networks and reconnecting to them. To do that, Settings > Wi-Fi > Select your connection > Tap Forget this Network at the top of the screen. This has been known to jumpstart a poorly performing Wi-Fi connection on the iPhone.

If that doesn’t work, try restarting your router. Unplug it for a minute, plug it back in. You also might want to see if there is a firmware update available for your router. You’ll want to consult your router’s manual to find out how if you don’t know off the top of your head.

If you use Samsung Galaxy phone before, you can use a phone transfer to transfer data from Samsung Galaxy to iPhone 6S

If none of those help, take a look at Apple’s list of fixes for Wi-Fi problems.

How to Fix iPhone 6s Lag

We’ve been noticing a bit of lag on the iPhone 6s Plus and it appears that other iPhone 6s users are seeing the same thing on iOS 9.0.1 and below.

If your lag doesn’t go away within two days of setting up the phone or installing a new iOS update, you’ll want to take action. We’ve put together a list of potential solutions for iOS performance problems that you should look at before taking the phone in.

How to Fix iPhone 6s Bluetooth Problems

If your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus fails to pair to your Bluetooth device, there are a few fixes that could help you repair the connection.

First, reset your Network Settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Your device will forget your Bluetooth connections and you’ll now have to reconnect the phone to your various devices.

If that doesn’t help things, you’ll want to try forgetting the Bluetooth connection that’s causing problems. Go to Settings > Bluetooth > Select your connection using the circular blue i tab > Tap Forget this Device. Try pairing again.

If neither of those work, try resetting all of your settings. Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This process will take a few minutes and it won’t delete any of your data or files. That said, your settings will now be at factory defaults so you’ll need to spend some time setting things up again.

If you’re having iPhone 6s Bluetooth problems in the car, you’ll want to consult your cars manual and reset the connection.

First, forget the connection on your iPhone 6s. Next, reset Bluetooth in your car if you can. (If you can’t figure this out, you might have to bring it to a dealer.) Now, try and pair the iPhone 6s with the Bluetooth connection in your car.

How to Fix iPhone 6s Data Problems

If you are seeing problems with LTE or another data connection, you’ll want to investigate this list of fixes because they’ve been proven to work over the years.

First, try resetting the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus. Hold down the power button, slide to turn off, turn it back on using the power button.

If a restart doesn’t fix things, try toggling Cellular Data off and on in your device’s Settings. To do that go into Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data > Toggle Off. After you toggle it off, toggle it back on and see if that helps.

You will also want to try toggling Airplane Mode on for 30 seconds or so to see if that helps restore your data. Airplane Mode is located at the top of your settings.

You can also try shutting off LTE for a few minutes to see if that works. To shut it down, go into Settings > Cellular > Enable LTE > Off. Turn it back on after a minute.

If nothing here alleviates the problem, you’ll want to check social media and the news for potential outages. If you’re certain that there isn’t an outage, you’ll want to get in contact with your carrier or Apple customer support.

How to Fix iPhone 6s App Problems

Tons of iPhone 6s users are running into problems with app updates, apps, and the App Store. If you see problems with apps or the App Store, here’s what you need to do.

If app updates aren’t downloading on your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, try restarting your device with a hard reset. Hold down the power button and home button for 10 seconds and wait for the phone to reboot. Try downloading again.

If that doesn’t work, rapidly tap “Update” on an app before the “Open” symbol appears next to the app on the App Store. If that doesn’t work, wait a few hours and then try again. We’ve heard that problems have simply gone away after a few hours.

If you notice that an app’s performance is struggling, you’ll want to check to see if there is a new bug fix update available. Developers are still rolling out support for iOS 9 and they’ll always be rolling out bug fixers. Install the update if reviews are good.

If an update doesn’t work, try reinstalling the app. And if that doesn’t work, contact the developer to see if it has a fix.

How to Fix iPhone 6s 3D Touch Problems

The iPhone 6s comes with a new feature called 3D Touch that allows you to make a hard press to open up new menu functions. Some people are complaining that 3D Touch pops up too fast and some are saying that they are having problems getting it to pop up at all.

If you’re having issues, try adjusting the sensitivity. To do that, head into Settings > General > Accessibility > scroll down to 3D Touch and tap. The default is medium but you can switch it to firm or light. You can test the sensitivity at the bottom.

We also should point out that a lot of apps don’t come with support for 3D Touch. Not yet at least. So if your favorite app isn’t responding, it’s not because your iPhone 6s is broken, it’s probably because it lacks support.

How to Fix iPhone 6s Problems If Nothing Else Works

If you’ve run into an iPhone 6s problem that’s not listed here, you’ll want to head to Apple’s discussion forums and look around. You might also want to poke around on social media for complaints and potential fixes.

If you can’t find a fix that works for you, you can restore from a backup or factory reset your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus.

To restore from a backup:

Plug in and backup to the computer or to iCloud.
Turn off Find My iPhone – Settings -> iCloud -> Find my iPhone -> Off.
In iTunes Click Restore.
Follow the prompts and the iPhone will reinstall iOS 9 from scratch.
When it completes click Restore from Backup to put your information back on the iPhone or Choose to set up as a new iPhone.
Choosing to set up as a new iPhone will erase your files and data so please be careful.
If nothing works, make an appointment and see a Genius at the Apple Store.

iOS 9 Release: 5 Things That Need Your Attention
Keep an Eye on the iOS 9 Downgrade

1 / 5
Keep an Eye on the iOS 9 Downgrade
The first thing that should be on your radar is the iOS 9 downgrade. And the reason it should be on your radar is because Apple could stop signing off on the iOS 8.4.1 update and iOS 9.0 update at any time.

Apple is still signing off on the iOS 8.4.1 and iOS 9.0 updates which means that you can downgrade from iOS 9.0.1 to iOS 9.0 or iOS 8.4.1. If you're still on iOS 9.0, you can downgrade back to iOS 8.4.1 if you're experiencing problems.

While it would be nice if Apple left the downgrade loophole open forever, that won't happen. The company typically closes up shop after a week or two. And now that we're two weeks removed from the iOS 9.0 release, it could shut these downgrades down at any time.

So, if you're not happy with iOS 9.0.1 or iOS 9.0 and you think you'd be happier on an older version of iOS, you'll want to look into the downgrade process sooner rather than later. We could see Apple plug up the downgrade this week.

10 Things to Know About the iPhone 6s iOS 9.0.1 Update

Last week, Apple rolled out its iPhone 6s iOS 9.0.1 update to its new iPhone models. The update is small but it’s important. With that in mind, we want to take a look at what you need to know about the iPhone 6s iOS 9.0.1 release.

On September 25th, Apple released its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, the two devices that take over flagship duties from the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The two devices come with a number of brand new features including a new design, new cameras, new processor, and iOS 9.

Out of the box, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus run iOS 9.0, the update that Apple rolled out for older devices on September 16th. However, the company rolled out a brand new iOS 9.0.1 update that is available for download once the devices are setup.

iPhone 6s Things to Do2

The iPhone 6s iOS 9.0.1 update is the first update for the flagship smartphones and it delivers several essential bug fixes for annoying iOS 9 problems including a bug that impacted alarms and timers. It’s a tiny update but even tiny iOS updates have the potential to wreck havoc on a device’s performance.

We’ve been taking a look at the iPhone 6s iOS 9.0.1 update in the days since its release and today we want to share the most important things you need to know about it if you’re already running it or if you’re thinking about installing it.

Keep these things in mind as we push towards the next big iOS 9 release date later this year.

iOS 9.0.1 on iPhone 6s Impressions

1 / 10
iOS 9.0.1 on iPhone 6s Impressions
The first thing you should know is that we've been digging into the iOS 9.0.1 update on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. And what we've found is that it's performing well on Apple's new flagship models.

Battery life is strong, connectivity is holding up, apps are working better than they're working on the iPhone 6, and we haven't run into any major bugs. It's also worth mentioning that the bugs iOS 9.0.1 promised to fix have been fixed.

Mileage is always going to vary when it comes to iOS updates so you'll want to make sure that you dig into feedback before installing iOS 9.0.1. Our first impressions are a great place to start but you might also want to check into YouTube and Apple's Discussion Forums for help.

iPhone 6s Screen Scratches Appearing on Early Models

The iPhone 6s is less than a week old, but there’s already some turmoil brewing for the new device, as scratches are appearing on the iPhone 6s’s screen for some users.

The iPhone 6s was announced earlier this month and released last week. The new device keeps the same overall design and look as the iPhone 6, but comes with a few improvements and new features. The iPhone 6s comes with a faster processor, more memory, a much better camera, and a new display technology called 3D Touch.

The new camera can now shoot 12-megapixel photos instead of just 8-megapixel shots, and it can also record 4K video, which has a resolution that’s 4x larger than 1080p HD, making for some highly detailed videos.

Perhaps the biggest feature of the new device is the 3D Touch screen, which allows users to tap to select items and open up apps, but also press harder on the screen to bring up alternative options and other shortcuts to make navigation quicker and easier, similar to left-click and right-click on a mouse.

However, some users aren’t quite having an optimal time with their new smartphones, as some users are reporting that their iPhone 6s screens are scratching fairly easily, even though the display is made of stronger glass this time around.

If you use Samsung before, you can transfer Samsung data to iPhone 6s

Tech pundit Robert Scoble reports that his new iPhone 6s Plus “has a scratch on its screen already (actually several scratches),” and believes that it’s way easier to scratch the screen on the iPhone 6s than on previous iPhone models.

We’re not terribly surprised by this, as the iPhone 6 received the same worrisome experiences from new owners, and no matter how strong the glass is on a smartphone, it’s bound to scratch somewhat with the right angle and pressure from a sharp object.

There’s even a YouTube video that goes through different scratch tests on the new iPhone 6s, with regular car keys not doing a whole lot of damage, but a razor blade and sandpaper were a different story. The sandpaper is an interesting scratch test that many users overlook, as it’s really easy to scratch a screen with tiny rocks and sand particles that can make there way into your pocket without you realizing. These can scratch up an iPhone screen fairly easily.

Of course, there are some ways that you can repair surface scratches on your iPhone’s screen if you really want to go that route, since AppleCare likely won’t cover that kind of damage.

Of course, you can’t fix a scratch, but rather mask it so that it’s hidden more. To really fix a scratch on an iPhone screen, you’d have to replace the display, which can be costly.

However, there’s a pretty easy way to hide any scratches on your screen, as well as protecting against any future scratches from occurring.

All you need is a screen protector (which work just fine on the iPhone 6s’s 3D Touch screen). It may seem odd, but the adhesive from the screen protector will actually fill in any scratches and make them nearly invisible. I tried it on my dad’s iPhone a while back and it worked great. The screen was full of scratches, but after installing a screen protector, many of the scratches were hard to see.

If you have the iPhone 6s, it’s best to put a screen protector on it as soon as possible to prevent it from getting scratched up. You may think that you baby your iPhone to prevent it from getting scratches in the first place, but little things that you forget about can wreak havoc on your iPhone’s screen pretty quickly.

Apple announces iPhone 6s sales numbers, beating last year’s record

In 2014, Apple set a new opening-weekend sales record by a huge margin with its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. End user sales through the duo’s first weekend of availability topped 10 million units, raising the bar to what seemed like an impossible level. Of course, nothing is impossible when you have the kind of momentum Apple is enjoying right now, and the company just announced that it managed to set a new sales record this past weekend with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

DON’T MISS: Samsung trolled the iPhone 6s launch in an effort to make Apple fans look stupid

Last year, selling 10 million new iPhones was easy. Well, of course it wasn’t “easy,” but 2014 marked the first time Apple’s iPhone lineup was made available with large screens, and pent-up demand sent sales through the roof.

In 2015, Apple had to work a bit harder to top its previous iPhone sales record. Instead of just one week of preorder availability ahead of launch, Apple’s new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus had two full weeks of presales.

In addition to being available for purchase twice as long ahead of launch, Apple also included China among its initial launch markets for the new iPhones. China is one of Apple’s biggest territories for iPhone sales, and last year’s models weren’t officially made available until the fourth quarter.

So how did an extra week of preorders and the addition of China impact early iPhone 6s and 6s Plus sales? According to Apple, more than 13 million people took delivery of a new iPhone model between the handset’s initial release on Friday, September 25th, and the end of the day on Sunday. That number includes all preorders that were delivered through the end of this past weekend, as well as all in-store sales at Apple Stores and partner retail stores.

Apple also said the new iPhone models will launch in 40 additional countries on October 9th.

The company’s full press release follows below.

Apple Announces Record iPhone 6s & iPhone 6s Plus Sales

iPhone Available in 40 Additional Countries Beginning Friday, October 9

CUPERTINO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–

iPhone 6s Uses Different-Sized A9 Chips From Samsung and TSMC

Ahead of the launch of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, there were rumors suggesting both TSMC and Samsung were developing Apple's A9 chip for the device. There was some confusion over how the split would work, because the two companies used different technologies - TSMC was rumored to be using a 16-nanometer process while Samsung used a 14-nanometer process.

Chipworks has now confirmed via several iPhone 6s teardowns that the new devices do indeed contain application processors from both Samsung and TSMC.

Comparatively, the die size of the Samsung processor is smaller than the die size of the TSMC processor.

The APL0898 chip was developed by Samsung and measures in at 96 square millimeters, while the APL1022 chip manufactured by TSMC measures in at 104.5 square millimeters. Chipworks suggests Apple's decision to use processors from both companies points towards "major sourcing problems," but over the last few years, Apple has opted to diversify its supply chain to prevent manufacturing hurdles that can potentially lead to delays.

It is not yet clear how the size difference between the chips will affect the performance of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, but Chipworks plans to benchmark each of the processors to figure out whether iPhones equipped with Samsung chips and those equipped with TSMC chips perform differently.
